The United Kingdom's Information Commissioner's Office received new authority to levy fines on organizations that "deliberately" or "recklessly" violate the U.K.'s "Data Protection Act", or DPA, of 1998. In a little noticed amendment to the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act of 2008, the 1998 DPA was updated to enable the Information Commissioner to impose serious fines on organizations.
