Google garnered headlines all week with its new Chrome browser. Rival Microsoft announced it will release just four patches next Tuesday, but that may not be cause to think the day will be an easy one for those responsible for keeping systems patched. Also looking ahead, Apple is expected to announce iPod news. Otherwise, a warning was issued about new trickery from spammers and in case we all weren't aware of it by now, social-networking sites could be ripe for malware.

VMware is out with a batch of fixes for its systems that includes a new ActiveX control update designed to quell security issues related to Internet Explorer and updates for a range of other issues. Pidgin users should take heed and download the latest version of the open source IM client after the latest warning from The Zero Day Initiative about a flaw in the MSN chat protocol. And iPhone users will have to wait at least a few more days for a fix from Apple for the little flaw that allows locked iPhones to be opened with a few easy button pushes.

Apple on Fire!

It’s not just sales burning in Apple’s pockets — one of the Apple buildings in Cupertino caught fire today and burned for 3 hours before being extinguished — there was considerable damage.

The incident appeared to be connected to a construction crew working in the area where the blaze started, Darron Pisciotta, captain of operations for the Santa Clara County Fire Department, told InformationWeek. The work crew was the first to report the fire. More than 60 firefighters responded to the alarms.

I have a friend who’s been contracting down there, so glad to hear that no one was hurt!
I hope this doesn’t set development on the iTablet back;)
