Continuing the rapid consolidation or maybe the swallowing of the DLP market McAfee while announcing flat earnings today also announced that they were acquiring Reconnex for 46 million in cash. That just about does it in the DLP market with most of the pots having found a cover.  Congrats to all of the folks at Reconnex!

The folks at Ikarus Security Software seem to have enjoyed drinking of the truth serum, to come up with such a realistic retrospective of  the antivirus industry for the past 10 years, summarized in a single cartoon. Congrats, keeping it realistic means taking the issues seriously, compared to living in a self-serving twisted reality on their own. I have been actively using is the release candidates and I’m very impressed with it. Especially when you compare it to version 2.x. Congrats to Mozilla folks!

NY AG: 3 net providers to block Web sites with child porn

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Internet providers Verizon, Sprint and Time Warner Cable have agreed to block access to child pornography and eliminate the material from their servers, New York’s attorney general said Tuesday.

The companies also will pay $1.1 million to help fund efforts to remove the online child porn created and disseminated by users through their services, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said. The changes will affect customers nationwide.

Now Fred Wilson reports thats Microsoft has bought Xobni. Fred is linking to this Techcrunch article on it. Though it is still sketchy at this point, I think it would be a great pick up for Microsoft. After using it for a few months, I find it very useful. I think picking it up now, while still in beta is a cheap deal for Microsoft and will save them a ton of money having to buy it later!

Congrats to the team at Xobni for building a product that had obvious appeal.
