2006-10-16 08:34:00 by Eric Marvets in The Security Samurai

I have been a road warrior since just after 9/11. For the past 5 years I have spent at least 6 months of the year somewhere other than where I call home. At one point after .NET was released in 2002, I spent over a year and a half visiting 2 cities a week (fly out Sunday, speak at a seminar from 7:30 to 5:00 Monday and Tuesday, fly home Tuesday...

About to head over to morning sessions of Black Hat (OK, it started at 8am, but that is just an uncivil time for Las Vegas). Before I do, let me give you a quick recap of my first night on Black Hat. I didnt get in until 10pm and got to my hotel about 11. Looked up a few security twits and saw that Mitchell Ashley, Martin McKeay, JJ and Ryan...

Polyphasic Sleep

2007-03-20 21:04:00 by Eric Marvets in The Security Samurai

For the past 2 months Ive had the same problem. I cant get more than 4.5 hours of sleep a night. Ive tried everything. Regulating my sleep and wake time. Renouncing caffeine (something my ThinkGeek brothers would consider blasphemous). Removing the TV from the bedroom. No naps. Relaxation CDs, etc So after 2 months of this and more and more...

Beware of scams!

2008-01-31 06:06:00 by John Sexton in The Bullet Proof Blog

I was watching a show last night on Tru tv that I had not heard of previously. It is called "The Real Hustle" . It shows how con artists scam people and should be a real eye opener for many Last night's show dealt with how easy it is for con artists (not just conmen, but conwomen too)to steal credit card information, many times right in front...

What does size matter when it comes to chosing a security company? The big national companies with thousands on their payrolls would probably tell you it means everything, whilst a smaller firm like mine would tell you it can mean the complete opposite Take the case as reported in yesterday's Washington Post involving a security guard by the...

A law suit waiting to happen.

2007-12-06 04:25:00 by John Sexton in The Bullet Proof Blog

In my last posting I talked about employers being vulnerable when it came to law suits for not properly protecting their employees. As a security consultant, I am often asked to advise on ways to protect a client from such exposure. This process is called Risk Managment All of us can assume that we face some form of most of the time. A perfect...

Security is Invisible and Customers won't Pay for Security

2008-01-25 19:06:11 by RaviC in Musings on Information Security

A few years ago a dentist that I consulted with recommended me Dental Protector for Night Time Teeth Grinding . She mentioned that I grind my teeth during sleep. How in this world can I disprove her statement unless I have some external observer to monitor me all night to validate my teeth grinding Security is invisible. Customers are willing to...
